At least five persons including three students of Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) have been killed and 65 others including 28 students and four policemen have been injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) ripped through the university bus on Smuggli road of the provincial capital on Monday morning.
A police official told APP that an official bus of BUITEMS carrying students and escorted by police was on way when a bomb-laden Alto car parked on Smuggli road in Jinnah Town was detonated with remote control when the bus passed by. As a result, a powerful bomb blast ripped which killed five persons including three students and injured 65 others including 28 students and four policemen who riding in a police vehicle were escorting the university bus, the police official said adding that some passersby also received injuries.
We watched fire and smoke and hue and cry of the injured students and other people on the site soon after the bomb explosion while there was no one to provide them rescue, eye witness students Naimatullah and Zulfiqar said.
The law enforcement agencies rushed to the site and started rescue operation. The dead and the injured were brought to Sandeman Civil Hospital Quetta and later due to their very serious condition and lack of health facilities, the wounded were shifted to Combined Military Hospital Quetta. When APP contacted the hospital sources, they told that the dead were identified as Irfan, Aqil Raza, Shahid, Abdul Hadi and Farooq. The injured include Muhammad Ali, Khudaay Raheem, Umar, Chaman Ali, Rehmatullah, Shahab Ali, Muhammad Baseer, Muhammad Abid, Muhammad Ameen, Muhammad Ibrahim, Waqar Hussain, Muhammad Munir, Adil Ahmed, Zakir Hussain, Muhammad Yasin, Naimatullah, Imam Din, Amir Muhammad, Yasir Hussain, Mehar Ali, Irfan Ail, Muhammad Aslam, Riaz Ali, Shujaat Hussain, Samina Bibi, Zulfiqar, Asim, Muhammad Nabi, Asma Batool, Rabia Bibi, Iftikhar Ahmed, Ramzana Bibi, Ahmed Khan, Hamal Khan, Muhammad Ajmal, Muhammad Akmal, Fatima Bibi, Mumtaz Hussain, Waqar Hussain, Fatima, Kaka, Shafqatullah, Mehar, Arsalan, Haroon, Manno Jan, Arif, Saood, Abdullah, Asif, Najibullah, Jalil Ahmed, Safdar Rehman, Mukhtar, Adnan, Kainat, Abdul Razzaq, Navid Shah and Akmal Shah. The doctors said that condition of 20 injured is very serious. The police while quoting preliminary investigation said that most of the victims belonged to Hazar community. The incident created panic in the city. The law enforcement agencies including the Frontier Corps and the Police have launched search operation to trace and arrest the perpetrators. No arrest was reported till filing of this report. The police have registered a case and started investigation into the incident. Further probe was in process.
